Portrait Of Cameron Deed's finished.

Finished a portrait of my friend Cameron Deeds I used graphite on toned paper but now that I see that It's finished I think I went to light overall. Im going to get a little darker with the graphite so the drawing can really show once a photo Is taken of It. After completing the portrait I also realized I important It Is for me to complete several studies by great portrait painters like Ingres, and Holbein considered masters of line quality. Im just In a funk considering which artist to study first.....I'm going to be completing several more portraits and figure studies for a scholarship to study In France Im really hoping I get It, could be the jumpstart to my career that I've been working for.

As always critiques and suggestions more than welcome.

Notes

Notes from TSJ Book that I found helpful.

Light and form study.

Re-completed the light and form study using the same color's and the same technique but this study had a stronger emphasis on the proper amount of reflected light underneath the sphere. I am working on understanding a structural look with the human form. The direct light and reflected light cut across the form and Is not parallel to the contour of the sphere. 18x24 Oil on canvas.

Light and form Study

light and reflective study using burnt umber, titanium white, and cadmium yellow. I took this study from TSJ book on Light for the Artist. I have to make some minor changes specifically the reflective light and how It wraps around the form on the lower bottom of the sphere. The ball Is also slightly misshapen and I used a different brand of paint halfway through the study. I decided to complete some assignments on basic form modeling to understand the mistakes that I had made when I completed my figure study, I can already see where else I can improve before I attempt the figure again.

Figure study In Grisaille

This is my 3rd attempt of a figure study In grisaille I used the video by Robert Liberace as an example to follow by, I see many errors In this painting ranging from flat value's to abstract and irregular shapes of the human form. I am taking a small breaking working on some digital concept art for a video, practicing light and form exercise's and will try again possibly this weekend. I know I have an adequate understanding of drawing I just need to translate that to oils and that will take practice and patience. Critiques or suggestions welcome.

Julian Plate Study

I completed another plate study after the Julian plate's I have only so many left to study from now. Although this was another good study I realized that there were many faults on my part as well as the reproduction. I was at a loss on gathering information from the plate Itself and had to get a little creative with the tones. The original plate study has a much smoother transition on the plane's while my study was a little rougher, at the same time I made some changes independently from the study. I disliked the cast shadow's on the lips some of the edges were much to sharp for my taste's. Good study nonetheless and I look forward to continuing challenging myself.

Colour studies with two colours

I created this quick color chart to work on a short figure painting from one of Liberace's videos "The Painted Sketch" I used a canvas paper, burnt umber, and burnt sienna, with titanium and zinc white. Very good practicing on recognizing value changes In warm and cool temperature tones.

First landscape

First landscape painting attempt, I used raw sienna, burnt sienna, and burnt umber with titanium and zinc white for the lights. Comments or critiques would be greatly appreciated.
